Albino Fashion Model In Givenchy Ads (Photo)

Riccardo Tisci has opened up the often closed doors of fashion by introducing an albino model in the latest Givenchy ads. Steven Thompson is as pale as pale gets and is featured nude in the spring/summer 2011 Givenchy ads alongside Daphne Groeneveld, Iris Strubegger and Mariacarla Boscono. The ads, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, feature models that were shot individually, photoshopped to make them look ultra white and then layered into photoshop.

Tisci told WWD, they were exactly what he wanted to see. “They are very near my world,” he beamed.

Ambrose Olsen: Male Model Dead At 24 (Photos, Video)

Male model Ambrose Olsen died at the age of 24 on Thurs, April 22nd. The Alaskan native was best known for his Hugo Boss, YSL, Burberry and Louis Vuitton Ads.

According to his model profile at New York Magazine Ambrose enjoyed listening to Mozart and Tupac.

His death occured on the same day Colombian model Lina Marulanda commited suicide.

Goodbye Celebrities, Hello Fashion Models – Voltaire Fashion News

According to WWD Magazine, fashion designers have grown weary of using “overexposed” celebrities in their advertising campaigns.

Gucci, Yves Saint-Laurent and Chanel are all turning to fashion models for their fall/winter campaigns. Frida Gianni at Gucci says, “The other issue with celebrities is that they are characters who are often associated with a certain film. I prefer a strong, generic face that’s not related to any world — whether that be music or Hollywood.”

It is rumored that Eva Mendes may be replaced at Calvin Klein and also known that Lara Stone replaced Madonna for Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer campaign (who may feature Christy Turlington, Karen Elson and Natalia Vodianova this winter according to reports.)

St. John had Angelina Jolie at the heart of recent campaigns but followed up with catwalk star Karen Elson. “We wanted to make a clean break from actresses… and cleanse the palette,” St. John CEO Glenn McMahon told WWD.

While it is true models will get more exposure celebrities will always maintain a strong foothold in the world of fashion. May mags are celebrity heavy this year in the fashion world and models like Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss gracing covers are celebrities in their own right.

How to work with fashion models.

Working with models can be very fun and meeting new and interesting people is definitely a perk of the job. However, it is very important for a fashion photographer to make sure that his shoot is a professional and safe environment. Daily, I hear horror stories of fashion photographers abusing their craft and not treating models with the respect they deserve. Remember, your reputation spreads like wildfire. Behave professionally and you will be considered a professional in this industry. Behave poorly and you will be viewed as an amateur or labelled by the modeling agencies as a photographer that is to be avoided.

When a model steps onto your set she can be in a position of vulnerability. Sometimes the clothes may be revealing or the photos ask for an emotional response the model may feel uncomfortable sharing. It is your job to make her feel at ease.

I have heard of many photographers yelling at models, telling them that they don’t know how to move properly or not giving them any sort of direction. I get it. You think your cool because you are a fashion photographer and people love your images. Get overyourself. It is highly unlikely that you are going to make models respect you by yelling at them or making them feel inferior.

Be nice. People will find out that you are nice and fun to work with. And let’s face it. People want to work with people they like. Besides if you make models feel uncomfortable it will show in your fashion photography. Help models to feel at ease.
