How to find a fashion model.
Generally, when i am working with a model, she is registered at a fashion model agency. I tend to work with Elite, Next and LA Models in Los Angeles. I like working with these agencies as the girls are very professional and the agents know who I am. The agents at these agencies respect and like my work and are constantly sending new girls to meet me or work on various assignments.
I get emails daily from models from all around the world. It is generally pretty hard to work with these girls. Girls send me requests asking if I will be in their country or trying to find out if I would be interested in flying them to the US or Los Angeles. Outside of the obvious costs, even if the client had a budget that could afford it, I rarely “fly in” models that do not come highly recommended from an agency. On the rare times that I have disaster has struck. Once I was working on a job in Mexico. The client and I flew in a model from Miami. The model arrived at the airport with a really short bob of hair and a bad of extensions. Our team tried to put the extensions in as the client was looking for long hair and she looked like she was wearing a mullet. On another occasion we flew a model into the Bahamas for a job and she had gained a lot of weight. It was for a swimsuit calendar and she was not proportionate to the other models there. So, the client sent her home. Needless to say it can be very important to meet a model before actually shooting her – especially when it is for a job.
In the beginning, before you are a professional photographer, you may have to shoot friends and people that you see have the potential to be models. Ask friends or ask your friends if they know models. Social networking sites like myspace and facebook can also be a great source for finding models as are model releated sites. I am sure if you get on google and type in model sites you will come up with a plethora of talent. They may not want to work with you without strong images in your book but you have to start somewhere. At the start of my career I was booking work and finding models based upon six images in my portfolio. Forget quantity and go with quality. Put your very best foot forward and people will want to work with you.

Project Runway Launched On The Wii
Project Runway Launched On The Wii
Project Runway has just launched on the Wii challenging its players (it’s target market is 6 to 12 year old girls and other fans of the show) to become virtual fashion designers. “Fashion is becoming one of the most powerful motivators for the teen and tween audiences,” claims Johnathan Anastas, an Atari vice-president who developed the game. “At the very least, we are giving an authentic expression of the runway experience.”
Heidi Klum gives it a thums up saying, “I liked it very much. I thought it was very chic.”
Chic or no you can make that decision for yourself. It was released this week for the Wii system. Who knows, it may even improve your catwalk.

The Pro’s of fashion photography.
There are several pro’s to becoming a fashion photographer.
Let’s start with creativity. When you look at a finished image in a magazine the majority of credit goes to 1 of 2 people. The model and the photographer. If your interested in becoming a fashion model I will talk about that more in my other blog, “How to become a successful fashion model.” For the moment we’re talking about photography. The photographer gets most of the credit. Now, i don’t wan’t it to sound like the photographer did it all by himself or should feel special and walk around patting himself on the back and let his ego get out of check. Let’s face it, there are a lot of photographers who do that and you know who you are. The pro that i am talking about here is the fact that you are given a lot of power by advertisers, fashion designers, fashion models, model agencies, makeup artists, fashion agents and all of the other key players in the industry. You are given the power to be creative. And if you are a person like me who likes to work in a creative field then fashion photography might be the field for you.
Travel: I travel all the time. In the last year i have been in Jamaica, England, Australia, Greece, Italy, France and probably a couple other places. No, you don’t have to travel but if you like to travel fashion photography can afford and give reason to see the world.
People: I meet interesting types all the time. Models, agents, managers, celebrities, taxi drivers, stylists, designers, executives and people from all walks of life who have an interest in what i do and want to hear about my successes and failures. I have made friends from all over the world. Some of my very best friends live in Australia, Germany, France, England, Italy and other exotic locales. I met most of these people through photography.
Money: There is a lot of money to be made as a fashion photographer. The question is, “How do i get my share?” We’ll venture there in a little while. For the moment I can tell you that i know personally photographers that make six figures a month. I know photographers who are millionaires. I also know fashion photographers who are working their way up the ladder to success. Some will fail. Some will succeed. The important part to know and respect is that photography is a process. We are all in different stages of the game but we are all in the same process. If your a photographer who just purchased his or her first camera, excellent! I was there too. That is a wonderful place to be. If your an advanced photographer who has been working at the craft for many years, great! We will talk about how both types of photographers can earn his or her share of the money that is available in the marketplace.
Longevity: Some fashion magazine covers and portraits are considered works of art. I was in a library browsing fashion magazines from the twenties and thirties and marveled at how well preserved some of these were. You also have the opportunity to develop and create art books through photography! This is my passion. There may not be a lot of money in them but there is a chance to immortalize your work with the right pictures and publisher.
Before I continue let me say this. Photography is not an easy way to make money. It is not a “sure thing.” I am not certain I know what a “sure thing” is these days. Your probably much more likely to make a lot of money if you invest in real estate. I am not saying fashion photography is for everyone. If your faint of heart you may want to leave now. But, if your determined to succeed then I have a lot more information for you. Read on!

Anorexic Model Speaks Out
Anorexc Model Speaks Out.
It’s sounds like a glamourus dream. Walking the catwalks of Milan, Paris, London and New York. Making money and wearing some of the most beautiful gowns known to man. For some it is. For others, it is a nightmare.
Fashion model, Inga Radziejewski speaks out about the pressures to be thin in the modeling world. “I was incredibly skinny but had fittings for designers like Christian Dior and the clothers were so small that even though I was anorexic I struggled to get in them.”
At her lowest weight she topped the scales at an unbelievable 98 pounds and wore a size 00. Way to small for the frame of a 5’11″ beauty.
Inga’s credits include H&M, Dior, Miss Sixty, Benneton and the James Bond Movie, “Quantum of Solace.”
At her worst she admits to eating only half and apple a day and drinking peppermint tea with brown sugar to energize her body. Eventually she left the catwalk to get help and now wears a size 12 and finds modeling jobs in Asia.
“In some ways it was very glamorous.” she says of her modeling life. “I lived in a hotel suite. But food was just not a subject anyone discussed. Not once was I asked if I’d eaten.”

How to get Fashion Model Skinny.
How to get fashion model skinny.
I hate this subject. “Is she too thin?” “Is she too fat?” ‘Will she fit into the clothes?” “Rob, my agent is going to measure me! What do I do?” “I just got weighed at my agency and they said I am fat.” “We tell models to starve themselves.”
Weight is a sensitive issue in this business but a real issue. As a fashion photographer I know that if I am handed some designs to shoot I need to work with a model that is going to fit into those clothes and the fashion photography had better be good. That is the bottom line. So, if your quest is to be a fashion model then you need to be fashion model skinny.
Here are a few tips:
1. Eat right. I am guilty of it too. Only an hour ago I was in the drive thru at Taco Bell ordering a Nachos Bell Grande with extra sour cream and a crunchwrap supreme. I was at the gym this morning in spin class. But the two, cancel each other out. I have to make better choices but remember, I am not a fashion model. Raw veggies are very important. Stay away from fast food altogether and stay away from processed foods. No Coke. (For those who live in Hollywood this may have a double meaning. Stay away from both.) Drink lots of water. Eat lots of protein. There is a lot of great protein in chicken and nuts and I always have protein bars within reach in case I get the munchies. The important thing is to eat about six times a day to keep your metabolism going. Also the portions should be small. If your lost and have no idea what I am talking about then hire the services of a professional nutritionist. He or she can put you on the path to being model skinny.
2. Exercise! Hello, anybody out there? If you are a fashion model you need to take care of your body and exercise. Not only should you have a cardio workout you need to get in the gym and start lifting weights. I recommend lifting lighter weights at a higher reps. Stay away from the heavier weights. I used to lift pretty heavy weights myself in the gym. A few weeks ago I was talking with a personal trainer who has an amazing physique. He was bench pressing 50 lbs and a 45 pound barbell. This is pretty light weight for a man of his size. All of the other “gym buffs” were lifting around 135 lbs plus a 45 pound barbell. When I asked him why we were lifting such heavy weights and he was lifting such easy weights the trainer told me it was all about “ego.” “You really don’t need that much weight to build a great physique if you want to be ripped but lean. You watch other people lift heavy weights so your ego competes with them and tells you that you have to lift more and more.” I listened to him and started working out with less weights and more reps and my body is already starting to make noticeable changes. If your a woman and you don’t want that “bodybuilder look” I suggest the same strategy. Also, consider the services of a personal trainer. Be sure to work with someone who is actually in shape and appears to know what he or she is talking about.
4. Don’t cheat. If you workout hard that does not give you the right to go home and snack on junk. All of your hard work was put to waste. I understand that as people we all fall off the wagon and go through rough patches. The trick is to recognize you are off track and get back on it.
5. Crash diets. These are not good if you don’t change your eating habits. I have lost a lot of weight on them. I used to partake in the “Lemonade Diet.” Each time I was on it I lost approximately 20 pounds in a two week period. The problem was the diet was so severe that I never changed my eating habits and gained all the weight back in a matter of months. Keep in mind I was exercising on that particular diet and results do vary. Men seem to lose weight quicker than women from my experience on crash diets. Here are a few model recommended plans for a healthy way of eating.
Heidi Klum – The New York Body Plan Diet. Heidi shocked her fans at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show by walking the catwalk just weeks after having a baby. She gave credit to the New York Body Plan Diet for helping her regain her fabulous figure. It promises radical changes in just two short weeks. Alchohol, bread and dairy products are a definite no-no on this plan. It also limits your calories to 1200 per day. Heidi strongly suggests eating every 3 hours and loves to snack on apples to keep her full between meals.

Adriana Lima – The portion control diet. Adriana Lima is famous for her fantastic physique and suggests the Portion Control Diet. On this diet you can eat almost anything but in small portions. Be reasonable here. If you eat small portions of processed foods all day long you are going to stay in the same boat your in if you are not already model skinny. Adriana loves salads (no dressing – exactly what my trainer suggested) and her preferred workout is Capoeira Aerobic a fun and rhythmical workout.

Gisele Bundchen – Loves meat. Gisele has also admitted to having a fondness for cheeseburgers. Keep in mind Gisele also supplements her cheeseburger diet with yoga and lots of cardio and let’s face it, most of us cannot eat cheeseburgers and look like Gisele. It’s hard enough to do that eating healthy foods! Gisele also uses cayenne pepper a spice that speeds up your metabolism with her meals.

Just remember, exercise and nutrition are the keys to being model skinny.
A word about anorexia. There are a lot of models out there that are anorexic. They starve themselves. As a photographer I can tell the difference easily between an anorexic model and a thin fashion model. Anorexic models are not attractive to me. Be healthy. Please!
