Travel photography – Santorini – Day Two

We picked up Olga last night at the airport. She is a lovely fashion model from Belarus. She doesn’t speak a word of English. Thank God, Marina (another model from Russia) is here to help with translation. I am very excited to shoot with Marina as well.
Olga and I set out early this morning into the lovely town of Megalachori and shot Lloyd Klein Couture. It was very interesting because we were mostly silent outside of hand gestures and signals. For a moment is almost seemed as if we were deaf. I can imagine that it must be frustrating for Olga here with a crew of people as large as we have. I remember one of my first trips abroad to Vienna where I stayed for 6 months. When i first arrived I didn’t speak a word of German and I felt so stupid. Everyone was conversing in their native language and I couldn’t contribut anything! How frustrating. You have to have been in that situation I think to fully understand it. That is part of the business of photography. Working with a fashion model can be complex.
Didn’t matter though. We had a blast. After shooting a few garments we couldn’t stop laughing at the dumbest things! What a great day in the life of a fashion photographer!
