How to get a modeling agency.
The number one thing a modeling agency is looking for is a girl to make them money. Your job is to make the modeling agency and yourself money. They are looking for models to help them do this.
They also love:
1. Confidence and Charisma. It helps when the girl has a great personality that can win over their clients.
2. “The Look” There are so many different types of looks. The world of fashion photography can be fickle. Some agents like girls who look like boys. Some agents like blondes. Some fashion photographers love red heads. People have different tastes when it comes to beauty. If you are rejected by an agent because they have several other girls that “look like you” don’t be discouraged. They actually may. They don’t need you to compete with the girls that they already have on their roster. When that girl is gone you may be perfect for that agency. Work on your body. Work on your portfolio. Come back when they ask you to.
3. A little investment cash. You shouldn’t be paying a modeling agency money for more than a couple of things. Maybe 1 or 2 test shoots, a fee to be listed on their website and your portfolio book. Still, they love it when a girl has a little money to invest in her career. It’s nice to be able to afford a photographer who may not be in your price range. Its nice to be able to have a car if your in Los Angeles and to be able to trim your hair if necessary and buy a couple of outfits for go sees.
4. Good energy. If you are a go getter and have great energy that will inspire your agent to work harder for you. Don’t be a downer. This business needs positive, happy people.
5. Match their height and weight requirements. Work out. Eat protein. Don’t be a junk food junkie. Take care of yourself. In more commercial markets like LA or Miami you may be a working model and may not be as tall as the other girls. There are dozens of agencies with commercial departments here. This business needs all types. Even in larger cities. If you are a little on the shorter side call up acting agencies and see if they have a commercial department. You can work too! If you are a plus sized model you still need to take care of your figure. Agents love to pull out the scales in their office and measuring tapes. Its your job now to keep fit. You want to be a model right?
