How to become a fashion model even if your not gorgeous.

How to become a fashion model even if your not gorgeous.

You don’t have to be gorgeous to be a fashion model. Don’t get me wrong. Many fashion models are stunning. I personally know many amazing looking women that are making a ton of cash in this business. I also know some women who are not obvious beauties but they are making the same amount of money as the stunning women. Why? Because they are interesting.

Traditionally we think of a stunning girl as someone who has no flaws that we can picture on the cover of Vogue or your favorite fashion magazine. Usually there is a lot of retouching that goes into those images and let’s face it. No one is perfect. The camera (especially digital) pics up flaws. Makeup artists, hairstylists, designers, photographers and retouchers are all hired for a reason. To help minimize those flaws and produce beautiful results. Even with all that help the most gorgeous girl is not the one that necessarily books all the work.

Be interesting. If you are interesting there is more work than you can imagine out there waiting for you. You may still have to work on yourself to make yourself interesting.

Here are 5 tips to help you become a highly successful fashion model.

1. Make sure you are in model condition. You may have to gain weight or lose weight. You may be perfect as you are. It is very important to take care of your body by feeding it proper nutrition, drinking plenty of water and getting exercise. If you currently exercise quite a bit but have plateaued consider working out with weights. Hire a trainer for a few sessions. I have seen girls that lift free weights (in lighter amounts) that have completely transformed their bodies in a short period of time.

2. Be confident. Confidence comes with practice but is something we all have inside us. If you have bad habits you may pick up a self help book to help you eliminate them or you may need group support depending on the problem. Consider it. There are plenty of books on becoming confident. Dale Carnegie’s How To Win Friends And Influence People is an amazing book that will help enrich your confidence if you are lacking it. There are many others. Look in your local bookstore.

3. Write down your goals. Many people wander through life aimlessly not knowing what they really want. You have to write down your goals on paper. Figure out what it is that you want. Most people don’t jump into a car and drive without a sense of direction. Don’t live your life like that. Know where you are going and then focus on the destination. You’ll get there much faster.

4. Educate yourself about this business. Buy fashion magazines. Look at poses. Cut pictures out of your favorite magazines and create a scrapbook with all your favorite poses. Be creative. Test with fashion photographers. On set try new things. I don’t expect miracles from beginners and as a photographer I do love to direct models but it helps if you have a strong sense of what a model does. Every time I pick up a magazine and see a picture of Heidi Klum I notice her work. She is a combination of beautiful and interesting. Look at her poses. Look at the faces she makes. Heidi is like a chameleon. She is different in each picture. Remember its not always about being sexy. You can be happy, sad, lost, furious, scared, in love and so much more…

5. Use affirmations. Affirmations are statements that you repeat over and over to yourself. I have seen areas of my life completely change because of affirmations. If you are not sure what they are still google affirmations. Find out what it is that you want and act as if you already have it. Be enthusiastic. Imagine yourself living the career that you long for. Feel what it likes to live in your dream house. Repeat your affirmations as often as you can. You will be rewarded.

Rememember, we have all the tools within us to get what we need to succeed. You just have to excercise them as often as you can.
