At 15 Ali won the Fashion Dallas/Kim Dawon Model Search contest. In February 2008 she was send home from Paris Fashion Week for having legs that were “too plump.” This happened after gaining 5lbs as she was struggling with an eating disorder. At 5’9″ she weighed only 106 lbs. She was then the center of the article “Wasn’t Skinny Supposed to Be Out of Fashion?” in The Wall Street Journal on February 28, 2008. She also appeared on The Today Show in May of 2008 and talked about the pressures to be thin in modeling.
Ali’s career returned full force in the spring/summer of 2009 where she walked in New York, Paris, London and Milan Fashion week.
Ali became the the face of Gianfranco Ferre, Lord & Taylor, Anna Sui and Coach.
